Reinforced Endotracheal Tube – Cuffed Armoured ETT

The Reinforced Endotracheal Tube, also known as an Armoured, Reinforced or Flexometallic Endotracheal Tube, is an airway-management device designed to maintain a secure airway during anaesthesia, surgery and mechanical ventilation. Unlike a conventional endotracheal tube, the reinforced ETT incorporates a spiral reinforcing wire within the tube wall. This provides flexibility while helping prevent the tube from kinking, collapsing or becoming obstructed when bent, particularly when the patient's head or neck must be repositioned during a procedure. Cuffed versions commonly incorporate a high-volume, low-pressure cuff to create an effective tracheal seal, along with depth markings and a radiopaque line to assist with positioning. Depending on manufacturer and model, a Murphy eye may also be incorporated near the distal tip.
