Wide-mouth opening: Larger pathology containers have wide openings to make placement and retrieval of tissue specimens easier. Durable plastic construction: Polypropylene is commonly used for histology containers, with HDPE also used for caps. Transparent or semi-transparent body: Allows the specimen and fluid level to be seen without opening the container. Opaque large-volume options: Some larger containers are opaque rather than transparent. Graduated markings: Many smaller and medium containers have graduations for estimating volume. Secure screw caps: Smaller containers typically use threaded closures designed to resist leakage. Large bucket-style containers: Larger sizes may use snap-top lids and carrying handles. Label/writing area: Allows patient identification, specimen details and other laboratory information to be recorded.
