Non-Vacuum Blood Collection

A Non-Vacuum Blood Collection Tube is a disposable specimen tube designed for the manual collection, handling and transportation of blood samples for clinical laboratory testing. Unlike evacuated blood collection tubes, a non-vacuum tube does not rely on a preset internal vacuum to draw a fixed volume of blood. Non-evacuated blood collection systems are available with different additives depending on the intended laboratory test. These can include EDTA, clot activator, sodium citrate, sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate, heparin or plain/no-additive configurations. Therefore, “non-vacuum” describes the collection system rather than the additive or intended test.
