A Non-Vacuum Blood Collection Tube is a disposable specimen tube designed for the manual collection, handling and transportation of blood samples for clinical laboratory testing. Unlike evacuated blood collection tubes, a non-vacuum tube does not rely on a preset internal vacuum to draw a fixed volume of blood.
Non-evacuated blood collection systems are available with different additives depending on the intended laboratory test. These can include EDTA, clot activator, sodium citrate, sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate, heparin or plain/no-additive configurations. Therefore, “non-vacuum” describes the collection system rather than the additive or intended test.
They are commonly used in hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres and medical laboratories for specimen collection before hematology, chemistry, serology and other laboratory investigations, depending on the tube additive.
