MAST X.L.D. Agar is a selective and differential culture medium used for the isolation of enteric pathogens, particularly Salmonella and Shigella species, from clinical and food samples.
X.L.D. means Xylose Lysine Deoxycholate. The formulation differentiates organisms through xylose, lactose and sucrose fermentation, lysine decarboxylation and hydrogen sulphide production. Sodium deoxycholate provides selectivity by suppressing many unwanted Gram-positive organisms.
