MAST MacConkey Agar Without Salt 500g is a selective and differential microbiological culture medium used for the isolation and identification of enteric bacteria, including organisms recovered from faecal specimens and water samples. The medium differentiates organisms according to lactose fermentation. Lactose-fermenting organisms typically produce pink colonies, while non-lactose fermenters produce pale, white or colourless colonies. The absence of added salt also helps suppress the swarming of most Proteus species, which can improve colony isolation and interpretation.
