MAST Hektoen Enteric Agar 500g is a dehydrated selective and differential culture medium designed for the isolation and differentiation of Salmonella spp. and Shigella spp. from specimens containing mixed intestinal flora.
The medium incorporates bile salts and indicator systems to suppress much of the accompanying intestinal flora while supporting recovery of enteric pathogens. Sodium thiosulphate and ferric ammonium citrate also allow detection of hydrogen sulphide-producing organisms, helping differentiate Salmonella from other enteric bacteria.
