Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) Agar – Selective & Differential Culture Medium

Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) Agar is a selective and differential microbiological culture medium used for the isolation and differentiation of appropriate Gram-negative enteric bacteria, particularly coliform organisms. The medium typically contains peptone, lactose, dipotassium phosphate, eosin Y, methylene blue and agar. Eosin Y and methylene blue contribute to selective inhibition of many Gram-positive bacteria while also helping differentiate organisms according to carbohydrate fermentation reactions.
