Chocolate Agar – Enriched Microbiology Culture Medium

Chocolate Agar is an enriched microbiological culture medium used for the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms that require additional nutrients for growth. Despite its name, Chocolate Agar does not contain chocolate. The characteristic brown/chocolate appearance traditionally results from heating blood during preparation, which lyses red blood cells and releases nutrients and growth factors that support demanding microorganisms.
