The Bunsen Burner is a laboratory heating device designed to produce a controllable gas flame for heating, combustion and other appropriate laboratory procedures. A typical Bunsen burner consists of a weighted base, vertical metal barrel, gas inlet and adjustable air openings. Fuel gas enters through the inlet and mixes with air before ignition. Adjusting the airflow changes the air-to-gas mixture and consequently the characteristics of the flame. With sufficient air, a properly adjusted Bunsen burner can produce a hotter blue, non-luminous flame, while reducing the air supply generally produces a more visible yellow/luminous flame.
