Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope

A Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope is a head-mounted ophthalmic diagnostic instrument designed for detailed examination of the retina and posterior segment of the eye. Unlike a direct ophthalmoscope, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy provides a wide-field stereoscopic view of the retina, helping clinicians examine both the posterior pole and peripheral retina. It is commonly used together with a handheld condensing lens such as a 20D or 28D lens. The instrument is suitable for ophthalmologists, retina specialists, eye hospitals, teaching hospitals, ophthalmology clinics and screening programmes. It is particularly useful for assessing retinal tears, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and other posterior-segment conditions.
