Acid & Bicarbonate Liquid Concentrates are specially formulated concentrates used with compatible hemodialysis machines to prepare dialysate for dialysis treatment. The acid and bicarbonate components are proportioned with purified dialysis water by the dialysis machine to produce the final dialysis fluid.
The acid concentrate (A concentrate) typically supplies sodium chloride and other electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and magnesium, together with an acidifying component; glucose may also be included depending on the formulation. The bicarbonate concentrate (B concentrate) primarily provides sodium bicarbonate and, in some formulations, additional sodium chloride.
These concentrates are intended for professional use in dialysis centres, renal units and hospitals equipped with compatible bicarbonate hemodialysis systems. Exact electrolyte composition, concentration and mixing ratio vary by formulation and dialysis-machine requirements, so the specified manufacturer's dilution instructions must always be followed. For example, commercial products are available with different mixing ratios, including 1+34 and 1+44 systems
Key Features
High-purity concentrates for hemodialysis
Produces physiologically balanced dialysate when mixed with RO water
Available in liquid canisters, drums, or central supply containers
Bicarbonate supplied as liquid concentrate or dry cartridge (Bicartridge)
Compatible with most modern hemodialysis machines
Multiple electrolyte formulations available to meet individual patient prescriptions
Accurate proportioning for stable conductivity and pH
Sterile manufacturing with strict quality control
Suitable for chronic and acute hemodialysis
Available for individual machines or central concentrate delivery systems.
Composition
Acid Concentrate (A-Concentrate)
Typically contains:
Sodium chloride
Potassium chloride (model dependent)
Calcium chloride
Magnesium chloride
Acetic acid and/or citric acid
Glucose (dextrose)
Purified water
Bicarbonate Concentrate (B-Concentrate)
Typically contains:
Sodium bicarbonate
Purified water (liquid formulation) or dry sodium bicarbonate powder in a cartridge for on-demand preparation.
These two concentrates are never administered directly to patients. They are proportioned by the dialysis machine with purified water to produce the final dialysate.
