Abbott Determine™ HIV Early Detect – 4th Generation HIV Rapid Test

Determine™ HIV Early Detect by Abbott is a 4th-generation rapid HIV diagnostic test designed for professional point-of-care screening and earlier detection of HIV infection. Unlike antibody-only rapid HIV tests, Determine HIV Early Detect simultaneously detects HIV-1 p24 antigen and HIV-1/2 antibodies. Detection of p24 antigen provides the ability to identify some acute HIV infections earlier than antibody-only testing, while antibody detection supports identification of established infection. Abbott describes it as the first and only WHO-prequalified 4th-generation rapid diagnostic test. The test uses lateral-flow technology and produces results in approximately 20 minutes. It accepts fingerstick whole blood, venous whole blood, serum or plasma, making it suitable for professional testing in hospitals, laboratories, diagnostic centres and appropriate point-of-care programmes.
